Arizona Revegetation Mix

From The Native Seed Company

One 4oz packet of Sonoran Desert Re-Vegetation Seed Mix - a blend of native species built for real restoration, not just a pretty flowerbed. This is a working mix designed to help disturbed, burned, or bare ground recover with the plants that actually belong here.

Species Blend:

  • Creosote (Larrea tridentata)
  • Triangle Bursage (Ambrosia deltoidea)
  • Brittlebush (Encelia farinosa)
  • Desert Marigold (Baileya multiradiata)
  • Desert Senna (Senna covesii)
  • Desert Globe Mallow (Sphaeralcea ambigua)
  • Needle Grama grass (Bouteloua aristidoides)

Each packet contains 1oz of seed blended with 3oz of organic rice hull carrier - the carrier helps the seed spread evenly, hold its position against wind and runoff, and retain the moisture seedlings need to establish.

When & Where to Use It

  • Best broadcast just ahead of the summer monsoon (June–early July) or in late fall/early winter - timing that lines up with when these species naturally germinate in the wild
  • Ideal for burned areas, construction-disturbed lots, eroded slopes, or any bare patch that needs to be stabilized and returned to native cover
  • Full sun, no soil amendments needed - this mix is built for lean, unimproved desert soil

How to Plant

  • Clear the area of debris and lightly scratch or rake the soil surface to help seed make contact with soil
  • Broadcast the mix evenly by hand
  • Water well at planting, then keep the area lightly moist through germination - under natural monsoon rainfall this mix can establish with no supplemental irrigation, but a helping hand with water in dry stretches meaningfully improves germination odds
  • Protect from heavy foot traffic and disturbance while establishing

Good to Know

  • This is a functional restoration blend first, ornamental second - expect a mix of shrubs, wildflowers, and grasses filling in cover over a season or two rather than an instant garden
  • Several species (like desert senna) are fast, aggressive establishers and tend to show results earliest, with the slower shrubs like creosote and bursage filling in behind them over time
  • Germination is rain-dependent - this mix performs best with a normal-to-wet monsoon season, and can underperform in unusually dry years without supplemental water.
